The  Quartet

     The Echoes of Zion Quartet was organized in 1930 in the Bush Mountain community in Southwest Atlanta, Georgia.  The group's founder was the late Harrison E. Smith.  Other members included F.L. Clarity (Black Angel), Richard Frazier, Ben Moore, Jack Ward, Alfred Ingram, Peston Ingram and George Canady.

     The Echoes of Zion were well known in the Atlanta area as one of the best leading and well organized quartet groups in the city.  In the 1940's,  Walter Andrews joined the group as one of their lead singers. Walter Andrews, along with the other members of the group, received national recognition for their recording "Tragic Monday".

     As the years moved on, the group was blessed to have other such notable singers as: Grady Ross Jr., Ernie Ford, Willie Alexander and William Chambers.

     The Lord has blessed us where we are still standing tall.  Jack Kelly is sill singing after 60 years.  Rev. Walter James is retired and residing in Griffin, Georgia.  Vernard Walker, who was a part of the Echoes for over 30 years, has formed his own group.  Remo Stantley  joined the group in the 1970's.  He relocated to Portland, Oregon and Ohio and has since returned to Atlanta to sing once again with the Echoes after 20 years.  Thomas Dorsey joined the group in 1981 and became an inactive member in 1990.  He too is back singing with the Echoes after 20 years. Ellery Freeman is a full-time muscian who joined the group in 2014.

     The Echoes of Zion current members are Jack Kelly, Thomas Dorsey, Remo Stantley, Ellery  Freeman  and Marcus Dorsey.
